The Franklin County Master Gardener Advisory Committee met on Tuesday, February 19 at 1:00, with both committee members and MGVs in attendance.

PA Position- Update  and Interim Director Contact Information

•    Jane Martin updated the group as to the state of the Program Assistant position.

The position will be listed on the OSU job web site February 25th, and she hopes to have a PA in place by April 1st.  It will be a part time position, 10 – 12 hours per week.  We have enough money to hire a program assistant until the end of the year. 

Next year we can ask the county to match our funds, but we might have to fund this position entirely ourselves.  Office space for the PA position is available at Howlett Hall

•    The Supervisor of the Program Assistant will be Howard Siegrist (ANR) in Licking County.

•    Marilyn Rabe is the County Interim Director

By-Laws

•    Juliet Taylor surveyed Master Gardener groups across the state.   Other counties have advisory committees or are 501C-3 corporations.  Most groups are based on committees and are flexible to change when needed.

 Advisory committees have the advantage of not having to file with the IRS annually. 

•    It was decided to add a Newsletter committee.
•    Short Course Management committee was deleted because Carolyn Allen from Clark County will be recruiting and scheduling Short Course volunteers.

Volunteers Needed

•    The Whetstone Rose Festival is June 14 and 15.  We will be participating and will be asking for volunteers.

Future Business 

•    Our next meeting will be March 25 at 1:00pm in Howlett Hall room 139.  All meetings are open to all MGVs.  This will be our first meeting without Jane.  Please come! We need your support and ideas.

Proposed Agenda:

•    Come up with a workable budget.

•    Discuss and approve By-Laws.
