Franklin County 4-H Recognizes Top Achievers

— filed under:

The 2009 Franklin County 4-H Recognition Program, held on October 11, recognized over 500 4-H youth members and adult volunteers who achieved special honors this year. Awards presented included Gold, Silver, and Bronze Clover Achievement Pins, Citizenship/Community Service Awards, Public Speaking Awards, Leadership Awards, Outstanding 4-H Member Awards, and awards for special achievements in volunteerism.

Over 300 4-H members, volunteers, club advisors, and family members attended the annual event at the Nationwide and Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center.  The program kicked off with a silent and live auction fundraiser that broke a county record this year, raising $6,345 for the 4-H program and its youth.  Following the auction, Representative Nancy Garland, of the Ohio House of Representatives delivered an inspirational keynote address where those present learned that she was a very active 4-H member for many years.

Following the keynote address, 4-H members were recognized for their many achievements in the past year.  Many members received clover pin awards at levels of Cloverbud, Gold, Silver, and Bronze.  Those members who demonstrated high levels of achievement in certain areas of 4-H received pin awards for the areas of Citizenship/Community Service, Public Speaking, and Leadership.  Top honors, known as the Outstanding 4-H Members, were given to the youth who received each of those pins in addition to other requirements.

Adult volunteers were also recognized for years of service.  In addition, several special awards were given.  Four volunteers received the Distinguished Service award and very special Hall of Fame awards were given.
