OSU Extension, Franklin County offers home buyer education workshop series designed to assist prospective home buyers in achieving their dream of owning a home and building a better future for their families. Our program is one of only a handful in Central Ohio that is U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)-certified and City of Columbus-approved. The workshop series have been restructured to be able to help in every step of the home buying process from beginning steps to building credit to being financially ready to apply for a mortgage loan. This home buyer education series will be held on August 4 and 11, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the Schoenbaum Family Center (175 E. 7th Ave., Columbus, Ohio).

If your credit score is 580 or above and one of the following apply to you, then register for Home Buyer Education 2:
• Ready to learn the entire home buying process
• Interested in down payment/closing cost assistance programs
• Steady income for the last two years
• Bankruptcy discharge/dismissed within the past two years
• Pre-approved by a lender
• In-contract on a home

You will learn:
• The steps in the home buying process
• How to apply for a mortgage loan
• How to understand your credit
• How to select a lender, realtor, home inspector and insurance agent
• How to budget to buy a home
• What happens at closing
• What it takes to be a successful homeowner
• About down payment and closing cost assistance programs
