OSU Extension, Franklin County offers a free comprehensive home buyer education workshop series to help prospective home buyers in achieving their dream of owning a home. This home buyer education series will be held on January 7 and 14 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Schoenbaum Family Center (175 E. 7th Ave., Columbus, Ohio). Our program is one of only a handful in Central Ohio that is U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)-certified and City of Columbus-approved. Those who attend both sessions and participate in a one-on-one budget counseling session will receive a HUD-certified Certificate of Completion, which often is required to apply for many down payment/closing cost assistance programs and/or grants. Participants in this workshop series will:
- Learn the basics of budgeting, credit, mortgage loans, and the home buying process
- Network with professionals such as lenders, realtors, insurance agents, and home inspectors
- Get information about financing options, including grants, loans, and cost assistance programs
