OSU Extension, Franklin County offers a free comprehensive home buyer education workshop series designed to assist prospective home buyers in achieving their dream of owning a home and building a better future for their families. Our program is one of only a handful in Central Ohio that is U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)-certified and City of Columbus-approved. Participants in this free workshop series will:

  • Learn the basics of budgeting, credit, mortgage loans, and the home buying process
  • Network with professionals such as lenders, realtors, insurance agents, and home inspectors
  • Get information about financing options, including grants, loans, and cost assistance programs

Participants who complete the home buyer education training (eight hours) and participate in a one-on-one budget/credit counseling session with a HUD-certified counselor (up to two hours) will receive a HUD-certified Certificate of Completion, which often is required to apply for many down payment/closing cost assistance programs and/or grants.

The home buyer education workshop series will be offered in Whitehall on Sept. 6, 13, 20, and 27 from 6-8 p.m. at the Columbus Metropolitan Library, Whitehall branch (Room 4 & 5 on 9/6, 9/13, 9/27; Room 2 & 3 on 9/20). There is no cost for the program.
