OSU Extension, Franklin County offers a free comprehensive home buyer education workshop series to help prospective home buyers in achieving their dream of owning a home. This series will be held March 7, 14, 21, and 28 from 6-8 p.m. at the Columbus Metropolitan Library, Whitehall branch, Room 2 & 3 (4445 E. Broad St., Whitehall, Ohio). Our program is one of only a handful in Central Ohio that is U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)-certified and City of Columbus-approved. Those who attend all four sessions and participate in a one-on-one budget counseling session will receive a HUD-certified Certificate of Completion, which often is required to apply for many down payment/closing cost assistance programs and/or grants. Participants in this workshop series will:

  • Learn the basics of budgeting, credit, mortgage loans, and the home buying process
  • Network with professionals such as lenders, realtors, insurance agents, and home inspectors
  • Get information about financing options, including grants, loans, and cost assistance programs
