Come tour some of Central Ohio’s finest school gardens, centered in and around Franklin County. You will have the opportunity to view school gardens at the elementary, middle school and high school level. The gardens range from very large to small in scale, but you will be inspired regardless of the size. Learn about the journey each teacher took to get the school garden up and running, and also how the garden has benefited the students at that school.
Specific schools on the tour include:
• Grandview Heights where Spanish teacher Carmen Mendoza* has taken the lead on the school garden.
• Devonshire Project Adventure Elementary School where Columbus City Schools teacher Katie Young* has created learning gardens tended by her students and others.
• Worthington Kilbourne High School where Susan Hrenko* manages the greenhouse and uses it as an educational tool with her special needs students.
• Reynoldsburg High School where teacher, Trevor Horn, has turned the gardens into a nutritional teaching tool. • Granville High School where the garden and greenhouse are successfully maintained by Jim Reding and his students.
Cost of the tour is $50 which includes bus transportation, lunch at Brookside Country Club and snacks.
