Highland Youth Garden is welcoming neighbors, families, and gardening enthusiasts to a special evening of community connection and agricultural education on Thursday, September 4, 2025.
The event begins with a Community Dinner from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., offering guests a chance to enjoy a shared meal in the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the garden. It’s a perfect opportunity to meet fellow community members and celebrate the spirit of urban gardening.
Following the dinner, Tim McDermott, Agriculture and Natural Resources Educator with Franklin County Extension, will join Paul Kemmer, Highland Youth Garden’s Garden and Facilities Manager, to lead a “High Tunnel 101” workshop. This session will introduce attendees to the basics of high tunnel growing systems—an increasingly popular method for extending the growing season and improving crop yields.
After the introductory class, Kemmer will share his plans for fall and winter growing in Highland Youth Garden’s own high tunnel, offering insights into how the garden continues to thrive year-round.
This event is free and open to the public. Whether you're a seasoned gardener or simply curious about sustainable growing practices, Highland Youth Garden promises an evening full of learning, inspiration, and community spirit.
