On the evening of Tuesday, May 15, more than 90 Franklin County Master Gardener Volunteers (MGVs) gathered for their quarterly Membership Meeting and Workshop. The MGVs who were able to attend braved strong thunderstorms and a tornado warning for a night of learning and recognition.
During the workshop portion of the program, the MGVs created take-home origami plant pots. After the activity, the evening continued with the recognition of the MGVs for their outstanding volunteer work in 2017. The International Harvest Garden and Cypress Wesleyan Community Garden MGV projects were highlighted, Missy O’Malia and Samra Shy were named MGVs of the Year, and Marlin Languis was acknowledged for the 3,500 volunteer hours that he has donated in his time as a MGV. In 2017, our 247 Franklin County MGVs completed over 14,429 hours of volunteer work, which is valued to be $348,316 worth of service. Congratulations to all of our Franklin County MGVs!
