    The fifth annual School Garden Conference was held on Friday, October 13, 2017. Educators, Afterschool personnel, OSU Extension Master Gardener Volunteers, and many others gathered to learn more about how to use gardening as a context for learning.

    Please welcome Tim McDermott to the Franklin County Office of OSU Extension. Tim began serving as a half-time Extension Educator for Agriculture and Natural Resources in Franklin County on October 2, 2017. Tim is replacing Brian Kleinke, who left OSU Extension in October to pursue other opportunities out-of-state. 

  3. OSU Extension Franklin County Recognized on National Level

    In October, Epsilon Sigma Phi (ESP), The Extension Professionals' Organization, held its National Conference where members of our OSU Extension, Franklin County Team were recognized. The team received a Diversity/ Multicultural award in the team category for their work with the "In the Garden 4-H Special Interest (SPIN) Club."

  4. Help Support Franklin County 4-H through The Big Give!

    The Big Give is a 26-hour Columbus Foundation event that takes place online on October 10 and 11, 2017. The event helps to raise financial support and awareness for community organizations in the Columbus area. This year, the Franklin County 4-H program is one of over 700 nonprofit organizations represented on this day of giving.   6. Community Nutrition Outreach

    This summer the OSU Extension, Franklin County Community Nutrition Team - which includes our Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed) and Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) staff - engaged with the Columbus community at local events such as 2017 FamJam and the Columbus Public Health farmers markets.

  7. Franklin County Master Gardeners Host Statewide Conference

    Franklin County Master Gardeners hosted the 2017 Statewide Master Gardener Volunteer Conference on the OSU Campus and at various sites around Columbus on Sept. 29 and 30, 2017. A total of 368 individuals attended various conference events over the two days, which included four different day-long bus tours to various gardens, urban farms, and horticultural institutions; three half-day walking tours on the OSU campus; and 18 different educational workshops and presentations over the two days.

    Volunteers help make 4-H possible! More than 300,000 youth and adult volunteers participate in the Ohio 4-H program each year. 4-H volunteers have the opportunity to contribute their time, energies, talents, and knowledge to help develop youth in a positive, educational way. The Franklin County 4-H program is dependent on its incredible adult volunteers to reach the youth of our county. Are you or someone you know interested in becoming a 4-H volunteer and helping a current 4-H club or starting your own?

  9. Agricultural and Natural Resources Educator to Serve as Faculty Leader

    Franklin County ANR Educator and Associate Professor Mike Hogan has been named OSU Faculty Council Chair- Elect for 2017 and will serve a two year term as one of five Faculty Leaders for the more than 4,100 faculty members at The Ohio State University.  As a faculty leader, Hogan will work directly with The President, Provost, and other university leaders on academic and educational policies and issues to foster shared governance of the institution.
