OSU Extension, Franklin County is working with researchers from The Ohio State University to study the health and wellness of 3rd grade children and their adult caregivers. All enrolled participants will receive FREE garden produce, health education and wearable fitness trackers!

    Our spring email wellness challenge is here, and the theme this time around is “Super Powers for a Super You!” Reset your lifestyle this spring with a renewed commitment to health. This challenge will guide you through making small but vital changes in your life to find a super you! Twice a week, from April 9 – May 21, enrolled participants will receive email messages filled with encouragement and strategies to create and sustain a healthy lifestyle. Participation is free - all you need is an email account! 

  3. The 2018 4-H Walk & Serve

    Join our 4-H youth and volunteers for a morning of running/walking and service this Saturday, April 8 at the Franklin County Fairgrounds. Franklin County 4-H will be hosting the annual Clover 5K at 8:30 a.m. After the run, there will be hands-on community service opportunities in collaboration with over 15 Central Ohio non-profits from 9:30 a.m. to noon. All are welcome. You can register online for the run/walk through 6:00 p.m. on Friday, April 7, for $30, or register day-of at the event for $35.

  4. OSU Extension Supports New Fathers and Their New Beginnings with Money Basic Classes

    It's true, "A Baby Changes Everything," and OSU Extension, Franklin County's Community Development Program area has a program to support new family beginnings! The Community Development team collaborates with Action for Children to hold The New Beginnings for New Fathers workshops. These workshops are for men 16 to 25 years of age who are young, new, or expectant fathers, or adult fathers who have at least one child under the age of one.

  7. Project Green Teacher Summer 2018 Series

    Do you want to learn how to lead youth in gardening activities?  The 4-H Project Green Teacher series will help you to create fun garden activities for youth, map out a school garden learning program, and become more confident as a school gardener.  4-H Project Green Teacher is a program facilitated by Ohio State University Extension personnel in Franklin County, in collaboration with area partners. This three-day series is scheduled for June 11-13, 2018, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., both on and near the Ohio State University campus.

  8. JOANN and 4-H Collaborate!

    On February 3, the Hudson, Ohio based company, JOANN Fabric and Craft Stores, partnered with the National 4-H program to facilitate a nationwide service project. 4-H youth and volunteers gathered at JOANN Fabric and Craft stores across the nation to engage with customers and to create Valentine's Day cards, which were used to send love to people in their local communities. Here in Franklin County, the Valentine's Day cards were given to Nationwide Children's Hospital patients and area assisted living facilities.

  9. LHLW 365 - Wellness Tips for All Year-Round

    You may be familiar with the email wellness challenges offered by the OSU Extension Live Healthy, Live Well (LHLW) team in the spring and during the holiday season. Now, you can receive abbreviated messages year-round through the LHLW365 program, a text messaging program designed to help you set and stick with personal wellness goals. When you enroll in the program you will receive two text messages each week from the LHLW team.

  10. The Edible Garden Display: Success!

    In February, our Franklin County Master Gardener Volunteers expanded their educational outreach with The Edible Garden display at The Columbus Dispatch Home and Garden Show. The Edible Garden hands-on display allowed visitors of the Home and Garden Show to learn from our trained Master Gardener Volunteers how to plant edibles such as herbs, vegetables, fruit, and tea. The Master Gardener Volunteers used raised-bed gardens and container gardens at the show to demonstrate how to plant and care for these varying types of edible plants at one's home.
